Spinneriet – an historic spinning mill in the center of Hjelmeland - has been restored and is today a building used for cultural and art events.
Spinneriet was built in 1873–1874. It used to be spinning mill for wool and a key workplace for women. Throughout the years the building has also served as a craft shool, wood chair production, blacksmith, conservation and wooden shoe factory.
In 1990 the mill was sold to Hjelmeland Municipality, which renovated the building to use as a cultural hub. The mill often hosts concerts and other events, and the building can be rented for private events.
